If I Can Do It, So Can You

I was born in a small, isolated and impoverished village in Haiti. I was just like the starving kid you saw on you television. I was completely deprived by what many take for granted in life. No electricity. No plumbing. I didn't even own a toothbrush or a spoon. I used my index finger to brush my teeth and my hands to eat.

My father vanished as soon as he found out my mother was pregnant. Nine months after my birth, my mother left me in the village with a neighbor.
